H.A.R.P. is BACK!

New and Improved (or at least different)

Fred and I would like to try something different.

We did the club for over 4 years and it was great, but it was difficult to sustain in that format. We were always worrying about who would show up, would we have a presentation, etc.

We are now going about it in a slightly different way. Let's call it...

Philly H.A.R.P. Jam Club

Fred, I, Chris, and Bill are going to play about once a month or so and you all are invited to come and jam. The more the merrier.

Where?
We have a new venue called THE GROG. It is at 863 W. Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, PA 19010. Great food and drink and we have the upstairs to ourselves.

When?
The third Tuesday of every month. Our first jam will be April 16th. As previously we will start at around 6:30pm.

But guys, why is this different from an open mic?
Well, it's similar except that instead of getting up and playing with the band for two or possibly three songs, here you can play all night. And hopefully it will end up being a jam club. Where people can learn from one another. There are a number of open mics in the area and we are not trying to compete with them at all. It's just that it strikes us that virtually every city in the country (and around the world for that matter) has an ongoing harmonica club. Why not Philly?

But how do we know this format will work?
Glad you asked. For our last Christmas party we did exactly that, had a good turn-out, and everyone got a chance to play as much as they wanted. That is, on virtually every song we all got a chance to take a couple of choruses, or not! James Day of James Day and the Fish Fry was there and really tore the place up. Hopefully he and other local greats will show up from time to time and not only play but give pointers to some of the other players. If you have some songs you'd like to try out, bring it on. If not, come anyway and we'll have set lists of the classics of blues and rock that you can join in on. The permutations are endless -- come with a song, play solos, practice your improv, play fills for other players, etc.
